About You

We’re looking for an individual with a drive to be the best: enabling Indonesia's market to deliver results creatively, legally, compliantly and ethically.

The role holder will also be responsible for the Brand Protection agenda in the Indonesia market, with direct accountability for strategy, execution, and achievement of KPIs relating to the level of counterfeiting of our brands in Indonesia.

Function

Reporting to Legal Counsel Indonesia sits in PT LKJ based in Jakarta

Provide advice, and guidance inputs on compliance, regulatory and contractual issues to support Indonesia market growth. Brands include Guinness, Captain Morgan, Smirnoff, Gordon’s, Mr. Dowell’s, Gilbey’s etc.

Acting as company secretary for PT LKJ, coordinate with Global IP counsel, Brand Protection Manager and other Global Subject Matter Experts.

Bring Diageo leadership standards and purpose to life and actively promote initiatives internally to other employees and markets.

About the Role

Be an effective and pragmatic legal and business advisor to the Indonesian management team by understanding the business closely and building great relationships with key stakeholders in both the Diageo business and third party relationships.

Minimize legal risk by early involvement in key projects, guiding resolution of issues, and proactively creating an environment where risk is avoided.

Proactively lead the compliance agenda including providing training on key policies and maintaining a rock-solid controls and compliance environment.

Understand the size and nature of the counterfeit and illegal product issues;

Implement brand protection strategy and ensure that brand protection activities are fully compliant and are delivering on key KPIs;

Effectively manage external service providers to ensure delivery of key KPIs;

Promptly and professionally handle customer/consumer complaints in relation to suspicious counterfeits or quality concerns;

Work closely with Legal and other functions such as Corporate Relations, Supply, Marketing, and Commercial on brand protection initiatives;

Conduct trade partnership audits, market visits, and monitor the counterfeit landscape;

Establish relationships with external stakeholders and relevant governmental agencies to influence enforcement and intellectual property protection;

Build counterfeit awareness amongst employees, customers, governmental offices, and the general public – train the trainer; and

Regularly report and update Brand Protection Working Group and Global Brand Protection Team on brand protection activities and the environment.

Experience required/Skills/Capabilities/Languages

5+ years experienced lawyer, with experience at a leading law firm or relevant in-house experience.

Excellent relationship-building and interpersonal skills, easily interacting with others and being approachable.

Ability to work confidently and stand ground with senior managers.

Experience in handling compliance-challenged markets.

Excellent interpersonal/communication skills, commercial/pragmatic approach, and strong influencing / coaching skills.

Strong commercial law background, especially in the negotiation and documentation of commercial contracts.

Understanding of intellectual property (IP) is an advantage

Previous anti-counterfeit experience is an advantage

Experience in project management, budget management, and report writing

Highest standards of compliance and integrity

Ability to work within the commercial environment and to identify business critical issues and prioritize workload to align with business needs.

Fluency in English and Indonesian Language.
