Job Description

Official Development Assistance (ODA) is money spent by a government to support the economic development objectives of another country. With a recognition of the importance of Indonesia to global climate change goals, the UK's ODA spend is focussed primarily on supporting Indonesia's climate, low carbon and clean energy targets. We also provide support in inclusive skills development and technology access. The UK works closely with counterparts in the Government at both national and provincial levels to ensure the money it spends is closely aligned with Government of Indonesia objectives and plans.

Main Purpose of Job:

You will lead on media and communications strategy for Official Development Assistance (ODA) programmes in Indonesia as part of the Media and Communications team. You will need to produce and disseminate press products and social media content that will appeal to our target audiences and deliver key messages. You will develop the audiences of our ODA programmes to ensure they match the objectives of our communications campaigns. You will be providing advice across the embassy on how to communicate and outreach to the right target audience for all ODA programmes (and some non-ODA) including building relationship with relevant stakeholders i.e., media, opinion formers, government departments, CSOs and international institutions. You will also help the wider media and communications team deliver a range of exciting media and public diplomacy events.

What will the Job Holder be Expected to Do:
  • Leading the design of British Embassy Jakarta's ODA media and communications strategy, identifying clear objectives and prioritising in how to achieve them.
  • Promoting programme visibility through digital communications channels by developing relevant and interesting content including photos and footage.
  • Monitor and analyse Indonesian media coverage of UK ODA issues, with reporting showing real added value which can be harnessed in the elaboration of key messages, the communications strategy, and policy work at the Embassy and in London.
  • Managing communications and public diplomacy events for ODA and non-ODA programmes.
  • Translating press products and ensure wide distribution to the right target audience.
  • Establishing relations with external stakeholders including senior editors of specific media outlets for ODA programmes.
  • Internal comms to promote ODA work within FCDO and corporate comms messages.
  • Managing internal comms to promote ODA work within FCDO.
  • Managing internal comms for Indonesia network corporate messaging.
  • Partner and build relationships with programme communications teams to develop and improve programme comms strategies.
  • Contribute to strategic comms planning for British Embassy Jakarta and Indonesian network.
  • Contribute to wider Media and Communications team and embassy duties and deliverables on comms, including visits, crisis, corporate events, etc.
Essential qualifications, skills and experience
  • Bachelor's degree from recognisable university.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience as comms officer/public relations.
  • Excellent communications skills both written and verbal.
  • Skills in handling project/programme communications campaigns.
  • In-depth understanding of multi-channel communications.
  • Experience of producing a range of press materials i.e., press releases, briefing, talking points, social media content.
Language Requirements:
  • Language: English / Bahasa Indonesia
  • Level of language required: Fluent (written and spoken)
