Job Description
JOB SUMMARY:
Prepares and compiles documents required by federal government for discharge of foreign cargo at domestic port to serve as intermediary between importers, merchant shipping companies, airlines, railroads, trucking companies, pipeline operators, and the United States Customs Service by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate supervisor. Travels to attend customer operational meetings. Assists in the training of custom's issues and procedures.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

- Communicate operational situations to management
- Assist in collection of any outstanding accounts.
- Maintain communication with steamship and/or airline agents as to status of shipments.
- Ensure that Logistic Coordinators are following department procedures
- Ensure proper training for new employees is carried out
- Ensure proper cross training in department
- Report vacations, absences, or personal leave of staff to proper Upper Management personnel
- Have plans for backup at time of vacation or planned sick leave. Advise by E-Mail
- Plan for someone in department to check E-Mail when out. Make request by E-Mail
- Go over work with person in department that will be working desk when out.
- Have desk of absent employees covered
- In absence of Vice President or Import Manager to ensure A.C.H. statement/payment statements are properly handled to pay duty to Customs without penalties.
- Assist sales department with sales calls to new and established customers
- Maintain communication and relationships with customers
- Answer day to day operational questions
- Together with management prepare fees and duty rate quotes in a timely manner
- Assist management to provide or make available additional training for staff
- Maintain knowledge of changes in Customs Regulations, Tariff and country requirements. Update employees.
- Review customer documents and report any problems and/or discrepancies to the customer.
- Open files.
- Prepare other documents required (Custom Bonds, Proforma Invoices, FDA Forms, USDA, etc.)
- Prepare cargo release and entry summary to submit to Customs.
- Approve all payables to carrier agents for release of cargo.
- Maintain status reports, if applicable.
- Invoice customers.
- Prepare Protest, Drawbacks and other reports to Customs.
- Manage and supervise daily work
- Maintain company confidentiality and professional standards
- Mandatory attendance of all Quality meetings/training and the application of the entire Quality Process
- When you are out for vacation/planned sick leave make sure your employees are sent E-Mail so they know how to get in touch with you in case of an emergency.
- Ensure all decisions and actions take into account the utmost safety in respect to the quality of the environment and health of employees and contractors in which BDP interacts with on a daily basis.

Knowledge of import documentation i.e. Commercial Invoice, Packing List, Ocean Bill of lading and Delivery Order
Knowledge of how to prepare entry papers from shipper's invoice in accordance with U.S. Customs Service regulations, and regulations of other federal agencies bearing on importation of goods such as Environmental Protection Agency and Food and Drug Administration
Knowledge of software system to enter data to obtain necessary release of cargo
Knowledge how to communicate with Steamship Line to obtain arrival information, collect charges, and delivery information
Knowledge of how to prepare papers for storage of imported goods and for transportation of imported goods from port to final destination
Quotes duty rates on goods to be imported
Knowledge of office equipment, i.e. fax, printers, and copier
