Creating & managing event budgets and working with finance staff to monitor expenses during events to ensure that costs are within budget guidelines and do not exceed revenue generated from ticket sales and sponsorships
Developing pricing strategies based on market conditions, customer demographics, and competition
Determining the venue for the event, securing contracts with vendors, and hiring staff for the event
Communicating with clients to determine their needs and objectives in order to create a successful event
Developing and implementing an event marketing plan that aligns with the client's objectives, including identifying target audiences and creating promotional materials such as brochures or flyers
Directing all aspects of an event, including preparation, staging, and cleanup
Planning the event timeline and making sure it is followed closely during the event
Negotiating contracts with vendors to secure services such as catering, entertainment, or venue rental
Collaborating with vendors to select entertainment and speakers that suit the event's purpose or theme
Coordinating with security personnel to ensure they are prepared to handle any issues that may arise at the event

Event Business managers typically need to have the following qualifications:
Education: Event business managers typically need a bachelor's degree. Preferred candidates who have a degree in business, event management, marketing or a related field. Some of the coursework these programs offer includes hospitality management, event planning, business management, marketing and sales.
Training & Experience: Many event managers gain the training they need for their role while working in other positions.
Some event managers may also work as coordinators or assistants before advancing to a management role. As an assistant or coordinator, you can gain experience in the areas of event business, revenue, planning, such as marketing, budgeting and logistics.
Certifications & Licenses: While event manager certification is not often required, it can be a great way to increase your qualifications and make you a more appealing candidate if the candidates have certifications that can prove an individual's qualifications.
