Job Description

INTRODUCTION

Sampoerna University is looking for an exceptional and creative Deputy Senior Manager to help lead @america, the U.S. Embassy’s American Center in Jakarta and premiere public diplomacy venue of the U.S. Department of State. @america’s goal is to showcase American culture, values and innovation and promote U.S. Government policies to Indonesians aged 15-35 years. The Deputy Senior Manager assists and backs up the Senior Manager in the overall daily management of @america, and specializes in overseeing marketing, social media, and event production. As such, the successful applicant will work as part of @america’s leadership team and must work across several functional areas. It is also expected that the successful candidate will manage selected events as assigned by the Senior Manager. Managing an event requires the coordination of all aspects of program delivery including directing A/V, media and related technology assets. The successful applicant must be passionate about customer service, ensuring a friendly and inviting atmosphere for both staff and guests in line with a dynamic American look and feel. Programming is delivered live at @america located in Pacific Place Mall, Jakarta, Indonesia, and/or via social media. This position is considered as Key Personnel and a part of the overall on-site management team. Evening and weekend hours may be required.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

To assist the senior manager in overseeing all functions of @america, including marketing, event management, social media content creation and delivery, information technology (IT), video production, facility operation, customer service, educational advising, personnel management, partnership development, and finance.
  • Ensure all @america efforts showcase American culture, values, and innovation and promotes U.S. Government policies.
  • Act as the Senior Manager when the Senior Manager is away.
  • Under the supervision of the Senior Manager, work with the Operations and Programming Teams to ensure all aspects of @america program development, marketing, social media content creation and delivery, IT, video production, facility operations, customer service, educational advising, personnel management, partnership development and finance are delivered with high quality and in line with @america goals.
  • Responsible for managing the delivery of selected events at @america (live, hybrid and/or via social media).
  • Ensure all visitors to @america have an enjoyable experience. Directly interact with visitors and set a positive example of guest relations for staff.
  • Provide management and technical direction for programs, as assigned.
  • Develop final event logistics plans to support selected projects.
  • Provide clear and concise communications to event talent, A/V staff and all others having ownership in the success of an event.
  • Collaborate with staff to create project schedules and timelines and identify needed resources.
  • Manage adjustments to event programs to counter environmental issues and unanticipated emergencies.
  • Manage crowd control and exit plans with stakeholders and security officials.
  • Ensure events follow local security, workplace safety and health regulations.
  • Communicate a positive message and interact with guests of @america including:

  • Experience working in a diverse, cross-cultural, transnational environment.
  • Create and refine operational processes to increase efficiency, and quality of programs and services.
  • Communicate with Program Director and Senior Manager on status and outcomes of events to solve problems, mitigate future risk, and drive our service-oriented strategy forward.
Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher. Degrees in marketing, advertising, media production, public relations, or similar are welcome.
  • Experience managing high-impact teams that support public performances/presentations, public events and/or media production.
  • Strong understanding of social media and its use as a marketing medium and content delivery platform
  • Working knowledge of video production and associated studio technologies.
  • Passion and demonstrated skill for creating dynamic, interactive experiences that provide both knowledge and entertainment to customers
  • Experience in operating a service- based or operational business unit
  • Ability to work well as a leader and as part of a larger leadership team.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with people of varying technical knowledge and backgrounds, including U.S. diplomats, Indonesian Government officials, business leaders, and other VIPs in addition to @america staff, vendors, and program partners.
  • Proven tolerance for ambiguity and a willingness to jump in and assume tasks to support the success of the team.
  • Strong ability to motivate employees and set a positive tone for the organization.
  • Demonstrated ability in process improvement and development.
  • High comfort level managing conflicting priorities and emerging requests.
  • Fluent in American English and Indonesian.

  • American citizen preferred. Indonesians with extensive U.S. experience may apply.
  • Experience working in an American company or organization
