Background
The Innovation for Indonesia's School Children (INOVASI) Program is a partnership between the Governments of Australia (GoA) and Indonesia (GoI). INOVASI includes Indonesia's Ministry of Education and Culture (MoEC), Ministry of Religious Affairs (MoRA), the National Development Planning Ministry (Bappenas), and sub-national partners in the provinces of West Nusa Tenggara, East Nusa Tenggara, North Kalimantan and East Java. The Program seeks to identify and support changes to education practice, systems and policy which demonstrably accelerate improved student learning outcomes. INOVASI is managed by Palladium on behalf of The Government of Australia (GOA), through the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), and formally started on 18 January 2016.
The eight-year program (2016-2023) supports selected government partners (sub-national and national) to identify and understand systemic problems impacting on teaching and learning outcomes in Indonesia and to develop and implement local solutions. The program has three focal areas for investigation: the quality of teaching in the classroom, the quality of support for teachers, and learning for all. Improved student learning outcomes in basic education provide the foundation for a more skilled Indonesian workforce that will drive economic growth and stability.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Purpose of the Position: INOVASI Phase 2 is now undergoing fast-paced and dynamic implementation in order to achieve targets and showcase the outcomes towards the end of the program in 2023. With this context, INOVASI intends to hire additional English Copy Editors and Bahasa Indonesia Copy Editors. These Copy Editors are responsible for providing appropriate, timely and relevant support to the Communication Team in copy editing technical documents, reports and information, education, and communication (IEC) materials developed by the program.

Duties: Under the direction of the Communications Manager and/or the relevant document author, the Copy Editor/s will: * Prepare, review, rewrite, and edit copy to improve the readability of technical reports, policy briefs, one-pager, PowerPoint slides, concept notes, and other communication documents in Bahasa Indonesia (for Bahasa Copy Editor) or in English (for English Copy Editor);
- Provide appropriate editorial input, such as correct usage of grammar, punctuation, syntax, and spell checking, as well as provide a thorough review of details and inputs such as, but not limited to policies, names of public officials, and acronyms;
- Read copy or proof to detect and correct errors in grammar, spelling, punctuation, and syntax;
- Review and apply the style guide in copy editing work.
- Verify content and information
- Coordinate regularly, updating with the Communication Team on copy editing tasks and deliverables.
- Submit quality editing tasks in a timely manner and meet agreed submission deadlines
- Perform other duties as required by the INOVASI team.
The Copy Editor/s will possess the following qualifications and experience:
- A degree in Communication, Journalism, or relevant discipline;
- Experience in writing, editing, and copy-editing technical assistance products and communication materials;
- Experience working in DFAT projects and development work, is highly desired;
- Strong copy-editing skills and keen attention to detail required;
- Familiarity, understanding of various technical reports are required;
- Advanced knowledge of the structure and content of English (for English Copy Editor) or Bahasa Indonesia (for Bahasa Copy Editor) languages;
- A broad understanding of issues related to education and international development is highly desired;
- Ability to tailor tone and expressions to suit the target audience;
- Excellent oral and written communications skills, including journalistic or technical writing, editing and research skills required;
- Ability to work independently, taking the initiative once guidance is provided;
- Availability to work on a casual, on-call basis and to work within strict deadlines.
